Blankets, why didn’t I think of that …

OK, I apologize for all this weather talk, but we RARELY have any winter weather to speak about here in Southern California. So I’m rolling with it. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I don’t think there are many of us here who are used to temps like we are having right now. I know that I’m sure not! Of course, we have people here who ski and enjoy winter sports. And yes, we have folks who live here who are from colder regions. But for the most part, I think functioning in our normal routine, in this type of cold, is quite a challenge for a lot of us. Many of us were definitely not ready for it. I know I wasn’t! For instance, I personally don’t have nearly enough clothes for these temps, HA! And I don’t think I’m alone. Our California winter jackets just aren’t cutting it. I say this because today I saw people who were dressed warmly running errands and walking with their kids who were also covered up in blankets. BLANKETS?!?! Immediately upon seeing them I thought that I have found my tribe of fellow cold people! And I was utterly in awe of their brilliance. BLANKETS! Warm cozy blankets! YEEEEES. And how freaking practical!?!? Why go out and purchase an expensive coat that you may only wear eight times in a decade when you can just cover up in a blanket. Seriously, sheer BRILLIANCE!

Well, I hope you all have a day where you wonder why didn’t I think of that?!?!!!

Predicting Mother Nature …

I always watch our weather diligently. We go a lot of different places and wear a lot of different hats around here so I need to know what’s coming at us. And since I basically spend my days trying to avoid being cold, it works for me. HA! Basically I plan our days around weather patterns. Which is pretty funny because we live in Southern California where we usually only get varying degrees of WARM. Every once in a while we get some off-the-wall weather for us. Like winter weather actually IN WINTER. Whoda thunk?!?! It’s happening right now too and it has me checking my weather app more. Which has proved to be absolutely confusing. I never realized just how much our weather patterns change.

Rain, wind, cold.

No, now it’s cold, sun and rain.

No wait, now it’s just going to be sunny and cold.

It changes so much that I’ve just been keeping an array of different cloths and accessories in my car and by our front door. We leave the house “layered” and remove clothing as needed. I think I’ve got a handle on it now. But wait … let me check my weather app again. Darn.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t try to predict Mother Nature!!!

I avoided the waddle …

We have had freakishly cold weather for Southern California. When I went out to run this morning at 5am it was 35 degrees. Needless to say I decided to wait. I didn’t think it would be possible for me to run in the amount of clothes I would need to wear to keep warm. The layers would be endless. Like an onion. Well, I guess I could run like that, but I don’t think it would look much like running … but it would be down right hilarious.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t waddle!!!

I froze my tootsies off …

Holy moly. It is cold here. At least it is for us folks in Southern California. Our high today is 59 degrees. I went outside earlier wearing just my flip-flops. BAD IDEA. With as easy as I get cold, I’m not sure what I was thinking. It’s going to take me until Spring to defrost!

Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t freeze your tootsies off!!!

Summer’s end and a change of pace …

It's our last Sunday of summer break. Sid and George are at college. Libs and Reese return to school on Tuesday. This summer has been a DOOZEY. Emotional and exciting don't even come close to describing it. The summer of 2017 will go down as one of my all time favorites.

I never want summer to end but there is something about the routine that comes with the start of a new school year that grounds me. Summer months tend to feel (and be) more spontaneous and frivolous. But the Fall, winter and Spring months have a coziness to them. Our days are filled with the orderliness of schedules, sports and school, and by the end of August I'm usually ready for it. Fall and winter around this house are filled with magic and traditions that I have come to love. This year we even have some different things planned as well. I'm looking forward to both the familiar back-to-school regimen and the new life we will carve out for ourselves. Our family dynamics are not the same with two of my four children out of the house now. Life will undoubtedly be different, but I know it will be good for all of us.

So am I ready to say "goodbye" to these incredible days of summer? Yes. I believe I am. I will tuck their memories away in my heart. And I will be grateful for each and every moment that I got to spend with the people I love most in this world. God blessed me with another summer … and I truly can't be more thankful.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you are ready for a change of pace!!!

Ready for summer …

I didn’t mind the colder and rainier weather we had this past winter and Spring. I actually liked it. Which is really weird for me. Recently we have had the return of our gorgeous sunny and warm California weather. I didn’t realize how much I had missed it. And it’s return has made the past two days of gloomy weather a real bummer!

Well, I hope you all have a day where you are ready for summer!!!

Waiting for something big …

Southern California is supposed to be getting some serious rain today. So far, where I am, it’s been a little windy and somewhat rainy. It’s been quite a few years since we have had any considerable rainfall, so I’m not sure if all the “hype” is going to be realized in a Noah’s Ark size storm. Perhaps we’re all just a little shocked that it’s actually raining again. HA!

Well, I hope you all have a day where something BIG happens!!!
