Cold and hungry (ALWAYS) …

In the midst of the chilliest winter I can EVER remember in California and during a time when I am expecting more from myself physically, I have come up with a new and accurate way of describing my whole being.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you aren’t ALWAYS cold and hungry!!!

Perfect timing …

If you know me, you know that I hate running in the rain. It goes back to what I have written about before. I spend most of my days preparing to be cold or trying to avoid it altogether. HA! We have had an unusual amount of rain here lately. Today’s forecast was rain again. But I needed to get a run in. I guess if there is one thing that I hate more than running in the rain, it’s running on a treadmill. So I did everything in my power to avoid both this morning. I watched my weather app and the skies like a hawk. The second I thought I could run without being rained on I took off. I don’t know how I planned it so well, but just as I finished my run it started to sprinkle again. Rain followed. PHEW!

Well, I hope you all have a day where you have perfect timing!!!

Freezing my face off …

My friends who live in cold places will be making fun of me after they read this one. But still, I write. HA!

This morning I had some walking miles to get done so I got ready like I normally do. The first thing I do is check the temperature outside and the air quality, then dress accordingly. Which this time of year usually means about three layers of clothing. THREE. And no I’m not joking. On run days I often shed the layers but walking days are a different beast. I’m usually cold the entire time. To put my cold tolerance in perspective you must first know how I exist. My entire life has been spent one of two ways, avoiding getting cold or being cold. Even during the summer. My family and friends can all attest that this is the truth. I was not cut out for the cold. No way. No how.

That being said, I truly rely on my weather app. which was not accurate this morning. It must not have updated since yesterday. Sadly, I dressed for 59 degrees not the low 40s. That is the difference of AT LEAST one layer of clothing and completely messed with my pants length/weather ratio. Needless to say (and WAY understated), I was cold.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t freeze your face off!!!

Changing your mind …

I am loving this gloomy Saturday! I normally don’t like anything but summer weather after the New Year but I am growing to appreciate these winter-like days. Days like this motivate me to both get in the kitchen and to get outside and do longer runs. Some of my most favorite things to do! After all these years, I’m finally learning to love colder weather. OK … maybe I’m going a little overboard on using the word “love”, because I don’t see myself feeling this way after a week of rain. HA!

Well, I hope you all have a day where you change your mind!!!

Blankets, why didn’t I think of that …

OK, I apologize for all this weather talk, but we RARELY have any winter weather to speak about here in Southern California. So I’m rolling with it. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I don’t think there are many of us here who are used to temps like we are having right now. I know that I’m sure not! Of course, we have people here who ski and enjoy winter sports. And yes, we have folks who live here who are from colder regions. But for the most part, I think functioning in our normal routine, in this type of cold, is quite a challenge for a lot of us. Many of us were definitely not ready for it. I know I wasn’t! For instance, I personally don’t have nearly enough clothes for these temps, HA! And I don’t think I’m alone. Our California winter jackets just aren’t cutting it. I say this because today I saw people who were dressed warmly running errands and walking with their kids who were also covered up in blankets. BLANKETS?!?! Immediately upon seeing them I thought that I have found my tribe of fellow cold people! And I was utterly in awe of their brilliance. BLANKETS! Warm cozy blankets! YEEEEES. And how freaking practical!?!? Why go out and purchase an expensive coat that you may only wear eight times in a decade when you can just cover up in a blanket. Seriously, sheer BRILLIANCE!

Well, I hope you all have a day where you wonder why didn’t I think of that?!?!!!

Predicting Mother Nature …

I always watch our weather diligently. We go a lot of different places and wear a lot of different hats around here so I need to know what’s coming at us. And since I basically spend my days trying to avoid being cold, it works for me. HA! Basically I plan our days around weather patterns. Which is pretty funny because we live in Southern California where we usually only get varying degrees of WARM. Every once in a while we get some off-the-wall weather for us. Like winter weather actually IN WINTER. Whoda thunk?!?! It’s happening right now too and it has me checking my weather app more. Which has proved to be absolutely confusing. I never realized just how much our weather patterns change.

Rain, wind, cold.

No, now it’s cold, sun and rain.

No wait, now it’s just going to be sunny and cold.

It changes so much that I’ve just been keeping an array of different cloths and accessories in my car and by our front door. We leave the house “layered” and remove clothing as needed. I think I’ve got a handle on it now. But wait … let me check my weather app again. Darn.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t try to predict Mother Nature!!!

I avoided the waddle …

We have had freakishly cold weather for Southern California. When I went out to run this morning at 5am it was 35 degrees. Needless to say I decided to wait. I didn’t think it would be possible for me to run in the amount of clothes I would need to wear to keep warm. The layers would be endless. Like an onion. Well, I guess I could run like that, but I don’t think it would look much like running … but it would be down right hilarious.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t waddle!!!
