I will surprisingly admit that I have loved our gloomy mornings. The sun coming out in the afternoon has been perfect. I’ve been enjoying it because I know that it is typically the precursor to everything I love seasonally. BUT when I saw that rain was in the forecast for later this week I felt offended. HA! This is supposed to be MAY GRAY. You know, that “California season” that happens right before our other season, JUNE GLOOM, and leads into the best season of the year … SUMMER. Rain has no part in this process. None. Zip. Zilch.
Well, I hope you all have a day where RAIN, RAIN, GOES AWAY!!!
It’s raining here again today. I think most of Southern California doesn’t to know what to make of it at this point, HA! I can’t remember a time when we had this much rain. And trust me, a lot of people out there on the road are NOT handling it well. We headed out early today and I can’t even begin to count the times that I thought to myself WHAT THE HECK (and screamed it a few times too!). It was treacherous at times! And I was almost sideswiped three separate times today. THREE.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you STAY IN YOUR LANE!!!
I was absolutely freezing this morning. We had a pretty cold rain for us. We were in the 30s where I live and that is really unusual. But not as unusual as it was to be snowing in parts of Southern California like it did! Weather craziness! Anyway, my life long avoidance of the cold had me prepared. I was wearing a shirt with a sweatshirt over it, a scarf, a jacket and boots with socks. I was PREPARED!
Until I went and got a manicure and pedicure.
It never occurred to me that I wasn’t going to be able to put my boots back on for a while. And I had errands to run! So there I was dressed from head to toe for epic winter weather … wearing flip flops. What could people have been thinking?!?!
Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t look (wardrobe) confused!!!
My friends who live in cold places will be making fun of me after they read this one. But still, I write. HA!
This morning I had some walking miles to get done so I got ready like I normally do. The first thing I do is check the temperature outside and the air quality, then dress accordingly. Which this time of year usually means about three layers of clothing. THREE. And no I’m not joking. On run days I often shed the layers but walking days are a different beast. I’m usually cold the entire time. To put my cold tolerance in perspective you must first know how I exist. My entire life has been spent one of two ways, avoiding getting cold or being cold. Even during the summer. My family and friends can all attest that this is the truth. I was not cut out for the cold. No way. No how.
That being said, I truly rely on my weather app. which was not accurate this morning. It must not have updated since yesterday. Sadly, I dressed for 59 degrees not the low 40s. That is the difference of AT LEAST one layer of clothing and completely messed with my pants length/weather ratio. Needless to say (and WAY understated), I was cold.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t freeze your face off!!!
Where we live Fall is more a state of mind. We have a few hints of Fall weather here and there, but honestly, it’s just a less hot version of summer. Typically this doesn’t bother me, but some years I can’t wait to get a glimpse of changing leaves and cooler temperatures. This is one of those years. And since our weather is just barely cooperating I have decided that today is the day for an autumn adventure. If Mother Nature isn’t brining Fall to us, then we will go and find it!
Well, I hope you all have a day where you take matters into your own hands!!!
As a runner (and someone with allergies, HA!) I can tell you, without a doubt, when our California Summer has come to an end. It only happens once or twice on my early morning runs, but it’s a telltale sign that our weather is changing. And it happened to me this morning.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you get itchy legs!!!
This morning I found myself looking in the mirror feeling like I was at THAT point. I’ve been THERE before. COUNTLESS times over my 50 years. No, it has nothing to do with my physical appearance. I actually like that! THIS is an INSIDE job. I have written before that I do believe that I have a happier disposition than most. I think it can be attributed to a lot of factors including learned behavior, weather and biochemistry (that’s the clinical social worker in me writing there). That being said, I have seasons in my life where I know that I need to give myself a little pep talk. Or 30. It’s usually during times when I see change looming, life shifting and dreams fading because of the different scenery. This is an uncomfortable time for me, but utterly survivable. Like I said, I have been HERE a lot so I know what it takes keep myself balanced. It’s just not always pleasant. But as the saying goes, “nothing worth having comes easy.”
Well, I hope you all have a day where you find that a little bit of bravery brings you a whole lot of happiness!!!
