I was absolutely freezing this morning. We had a pretty cold rain for us. We were in the 30s where I live and that is really unusual. But not as unusual as it was to be snowing in parts of Southern California like it did! Weather craziness! Anyway, my life long avoidance of the cold had me prepared. I was wearing a shirt with a sweatshirt over it, a scarf, a jacket and boots with socks. I was PREPARED!
Until I went and got a manicure and pedicure.
It never occurred to me that I wasn’t going to be able to put my boots back on for a while. And I had errands to run! So there I was dressed from head to toe for epic winter weather … wearing flip flops. What could people have been thinking?!?!
Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t look (wardrobe) confused!!!
My friends who live in cold places will be making fun of me after they read this one. But still, I write. HA!
This morning I had some walking miles to get done so I got ready like I normally do. The first thing I do is check the temperature outside and the air quality, then dress accordingly. Which this time of year usually means about three layers of clothing. THREE. And no I’m not joking. On run days I often shed the layers but walking days are a different beast. I’m usually cold the entire time. To put my cold tolerance in perspective you must first know how I exist. My entire life has been spent one of two ways, avoiding getting cold or being cold. Even during the summer. My family and friends can all attest that this is the truth. I was not cut out for the cold. No way. No how.
That being said, I truly rely on my weather app. which was not accurate this morning. It must not have updated since yesterday. Sadly, I dressed for 59 degrees not the low 40s. That is the difference of AT LEAST one layer of clothing and completely messed with my pants length/weather ratio. Needless to say (and WAY understated), I was cold.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t freeze your face off!!!
Where we live Fall is more a state of mind. We have a few hints of Fall weather here and there, but honestly, it’s just a less hot version of summer. Typically this doesn’t bother me, but some years I can’t wait to get a glimpse of changing leaves and cooler temperatures. This is one of those years. And since our weather is just barely cooperating I have decided that today is the day for an autumn adventure. If Mother Nature isn’t brining Fall to us, then we will go and find it!
Well, I hope you all have a day where you take matters into your own hands!!!
As a runner (and someone with allergies, HA!) I can tell you, without a doubt, when our California Summer has come to an end. It only happens once or twice on my early morning runs, but it’s a telltale sign that our weather is changing. And it happened to me this morning.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you get itchy legs!!!
This morning I found myself looking in the mirror feeling like I was at THAT point. I’ve been THERE before. COUNTLESS times over my 50 years. No, it has nothing to do with my physical appearance. I actually like that! THIS is an INSIDE job. I have written before that I do believe that I have a happier disposition than most. I think it can be attributed to a lot of factors including learned behavior, weather and biochemistry (that’s the clinical social worker in me writing there). That being said, I have seasons in my life where I know that I need to give myself a little pep talk. Or 30. It’s usually during times when I see change looming, life shifting and dreams fading because of the different scenery. This is an uncomfortable time for me, but utterly survivable. Like I said, I have been HERE a lot so I know what it takes keep myself balanced. It’s just not always pleasant. But as the saying goes, “nothing worth having comes easy.”
Well, I hope you all have a day where you find that a little bit of bravery brings you a whole lot of happiness!!!
I always watch our weather diligently. We go a lot of different places and wear a lot of different hats around here so I need to know what’s coming at us. And since I basically spend my days trying to avoid being cold, it works for me. HA! Basically I plan our days around weather patterns. Which is pretty funny because we live in Southern California where we usually only get varying degrees of WARM. Every once in a while we get some off-the-wall weather for us. Like winter weather actually IN WINTER. Whoda thunk?!?! It’s happening right now too and it has me checking my weather app more. Which has proved to be absolutely confusing. I never realized just how much our weather patterns change.
Rain, wind, cold.
No, now it’s cold, sun and rain.
No wait, now it’s just going to be sunny and cold.
It changes so much that I’ve just been keeping an array of different cloths and accessories in my car and by our front door. We leave the house “layered” and remove clothing as needed. I think I’ve got a handle on it now. But wait … let me check my weather app again. Darn.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t try to predict Mother Nature!!!
Last week when I left for my walks and runs in the morning it was cold. It was in the mid to high 40s, which is pretty cold for us Southern Californians. I admit, I get cold VERY easily. I joke with my family that I spend most of my day avoiding getting cold. But it’s TRUE! I always bring a sweater with me, even in the middle of summer. And trust me, my family teases me all the time about it. So needless to say I am used to bundling up for a run. And last week was no different. But I have no idea what the heck I was thinking this morning. When I checked the weather at 5:15 and it was 50 degrees. Only about 4 degrees warmer than it was last week. FOUR. But for some reason I thought wearing significantly less clothing than last week would be a good idea. For the record, it wasn’t! And I’m still paying for it. No joke. Ugh.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you haven’t been cold ALL DAY LONG!!!
