We have a family room that is more like an EVERYTHING room. Reclining couches. A television. TOYS. Weights and workout equipment. A piano. Bookshelves. A desk and computer. It’s a space outside of bedrooms that I’ve always kept for the kids to JUST BE and DO things in. It’s out in the open and keeps everyone returning to the same place multiple times of day. This space was thought out even before we had children. I wanted our home to feel like kids lived here and that their STUFF was welcome. I think it’s been pretty successful too. But it’s funny. Now that two of my kids are off in college you would think our EVERYTHING room would feel even bigger to the two that remain.
I have to say that there is nothing quite like witnessing an 8 year old and a 15 year old negotiate space … in a place where there is PLENTY of room for both of them. Oy!
Well, I hope you all have a day where you aren’t territorial!!!
I raced into yoga late this morning. Luckily the class started late too so I didn’t miss much. I normally try to get in there early enough to set up my little area so I have room around me for my things. My bag, towel, block and whatever I’m drinking. Most classes I just have a bottle of water with me but Friday’s I tend to have coffee. Probably because it’s the day I always seem crunched for time.
Anyway, because I was late I just tossed my things to the floor, threw open my mat and jumped in doing neck stretches. I didn’t have time to get my bearings on where my stuff was in spatial relation to my uncoordinated, gangly, half-asleep body. The second we started our “flow” this became painfully obvious. I kicked my coffee over and it spilled perfectly into my silver sandal. I honestly don’t think I could have done that even if I tried and had good aim.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you don’t have sticky feet!!!
I watched The Martian today. Wow. It was fantastic!
Now I realize that I am never going to be an astronaut and that the movie was fictional but it really made me think. I usually consider myself to be a pretty tough cookie. But after seeing this movie I realized that I am definitely not cut out for space travel or being a space castaway. There is no way I would last very long on a deserted planet alone. In fact, if I had to guess I would say that I would probably succumb to the elements faster than anyone else ever would. I don’t like dirt, wind or the cold. Which apparently Mars has a lot of. Clearly a survivalist, I am not.
Well, I hope you all had a day where you didn’t realize that you are a total WIMP!!!
