Time-released …

With all the cold and flu related advertisements I’ve been seeing these past few weeks I have come to one conclusion. The science that has come up with the medications that last for 12 to 24 hours is pure genius. Now don’t get me wrong. I still have a fear of all things chemical. But I can’t deny that I have used their benefits. Trust me, meningitis pain is not something you can just breath through. Anyway, my point is that I wish that we could harness this science and somehow melt it into everything else that leaves a bad taste in our mouths. Like traffic. Bad weather. School finals. Seriously, the list is limitless. Now some may be thinking, “That would drag it out.” But I say, NO! It just makes it even out. Like spreading it all thin enough to be a mild inconvenience rather than a poop storm of YUCK.

Well, I hope you all have a day where life is time-released!!!

Still so much to learn …

We are out in the desert this week. It’s absolutely beautiful here. And I love the desert heat. I’m also incredibly fascinated by the windmills. They look and operate like moving pieces of art. I’m memorized by them. And they are a reminder that there are still so many things in this world that I know nothing about. I’m a pretty intelligent woman, if I do say so myself. But I have absolutely no idea how these things work. And I don’t care. I could watch them all day long. It makes me kind of happy that I can just enjoy them. I’m thankful that there are people who do understand them. The people who created them and operate them are brilliant in my opinion. But I wonder if they see it that way? Do they just see work and numbers? Or do they see the magnificence of them? I hope for them, the latter. Or at minimum, I hope that they know that there are people like me out here who stand in awe of their creation.

A runner’s paranoia …

I’m sure that most people who don’t run don’t have a clear understanding of the Marathon Training Taper. If you aren’t in a personal relationship (of any kind) with a runner during this time period, consider yourself lucky. If you are, know that I think you are one brave soul.

I’ve mentioned before that the actual taper involves a significant decrease in running miles so that legs have time to repair and get stronger. Again, there is a science to all of it. I don’t completely get it, but I believe in it.

There is a whole other aspect to tapering that is also coinciding with your muscles healing and getting stronger. To put it bluntly. Some of us runners lose our ever lovin’ minds.

It’s a time when the runner fear meter goes off the chart. Every ache and pain is a fracture. Every sniffle and sneeze is a life threatening illness. You are convinced that Mother Nature and her wicked weather patterns are clearly out to get you. You are sure alarm clocks won’t work, cars won’t start, Garmins will die and shoelaces will break. And you know that food poisoning is just one swallow away.

Yup. That pretty much sums it up. At least, for me.

Out of order …

Whether you believe in God or science, THEY (those people again) say that there is a delicate balance that holds the world together. That once that ONE thing is removed, life as we know it crumbles.

Well … I believe it.

This morning, instead of running first and then going to yoga, I slept in and went to yoga first. Then I ran. And my body freaked the heck out. I have never sweat so much in my life. It was like my body didn’t know what to do with the change up and just decided to drown itself in its’ misery.

Yeah, so. Clearly my overly dramatic self gets that whole world crumbling thing … totally.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you go out of order!!!

Beach days and the betterment of mankind …

The day after every beach day we have my body is SO SORE. It makes no sense. All we do is veg out on the sand and play in the water. It’s relaxing not strenuous! Seriously, it hurts less to have run 16 miles the day before than it does having sat on my butt all day.


Maybe my body is revolting? Telling me it wants to go back! Maybe, if I spent every day, all day, FOREVER at the beach my body would be happy and not feel the need to kink and tense up. This really seems to warrant some research. Ya know … not just for me, but for science and humanity’s sake. I could be onto something here. The cure all for discomfort! The world clearly needs this information. It’s important. Yep. Totally. And I can be the test subject. I can travel to all the warmest beaches around the world, document my findings and report back diligently. Via email of course. You don’t need to thank me … really.
