Ready to eat (in Alaska) …

This summer I am traveling to Alaska with a friend of mine. I can’t wait! I’ve always wanted to go. AND the best part of our trip is that we get to spend time with one of our closest friends and her family.

For weeks now we have been discussing all the places we will go once we get there. It’s all very exciting! Because I’m a big foodie, FOOD has come up a few times. I love experiencing the places I travel to through food. You literally get a taste for the region. It’s so fun!

This morning I woke up early and was bored so I turned to social media, HA! On my Facebook newsfeed I found an article  “The Best Burger by State”. Well, that got me going. I proceeded to research all “The Best” food recommendations for Alaska … and send them all to my friends. Did I mention it was early?

Well, I hope you all have a day where you are ready to eat!!!

A sour day (YAY!) …

If you haven’t noticed by now, I am a major FOODIE. And I’m happy to say that I’ve raised a bunch of them too! I’ve always strived to teach my crew the importance of balance in their lives but especially in the areas of fitness and nutrition. Despite the hard work and diligence that goes into both, I always wanted them to find the joy them too. When it came to nutrition and the foods they ate I wanted them to understand that it didn’t all just magically pop out of our oven or refrigerator. I wanted them to understand that there was a process and a love that goes into the growing and preparing of food, long before it ever entered our home. So over the years we frequently found ourselves at food festivals and local farms and shops enjoying how REAL food was made. It’s been so much fun!

Today we are heading out to make more food adventure memories. We will be attending a Lemon Festival. With all four of my kids home I couldn’t be more excited to share this pucker-faced day with them!

Well, I hope you all have a sour day!!!

A little taste of magic …

My girls and I had Unicorn Frappuccinos today. They are a new limited-time only drink made by Starbucks. I’m not big on sweet drinks or cow’s milk, but THIS I had to try. Come on, any drink called “a unicorn” is worthy of a try! At least in my book anyway! So did I like it? Actually, yes. It’s a sweet and sour drink and pretty too, HA! It’s definitely not something I would have every day or even once a month. For me it was a ONE and DONE thing. Which I figured it would be. But heck, any opportunity I get to have an encounter with a unicorn is one I just have to take.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you get a little taste of magic!!!

Surprising myself in the most disturbing ways …

Have you ever ordered so much food that you thought that there was NO WAY that you could possibly eat all of it? But then you do … like some sort of gigantic starved savage beast with two stomaches! Oh my gosh. No really. Oh. My. Gosh.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you surprise yourself in the most disturbing way!!!

Magic in my mouth …

Today I had something called unicorn hot chocolate. It was from a local coffee and dessert shop named Creme & Sugar. And it tasted exactly how you think it would taste.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you have magic in your mouth!!!

It tastes like Christmas …

It’s been almost two months since I did some experimenting in the kitchen. I can’t believe how much I missed it! The day before I got sick I made Apple butter. Other than that, it’s just been the basics. Cooking and baking are not just hobbies for me. They literally feed my soul. The holidays make them that much more enjoyable. Today I started off by trying a new gingerbread pancake recipe and another for Gingerbread Lattes. Yummy! And trust me, I didn’t stop there. YAY!

Well, I hope you all have a day where it’s starting to taste a lot like Christmas!!!

Apple butter …

This morning I started peeling apples (5lbs to be exact) because I wanted to make apple butter. I have never made it before so I was willing to put the work in to make it happen. I will be honest, I don’t think my fingers will ever be the same again. I haven’t peeled that many apples collectively in like 10 years, HA! And boy oh boy, it takes HOURS to cook this stuff. But it feels worth all the hassle because my house smells amazing! Now let’s just hope it tastes yummy too … I should know around midnight. OY!

Well, I hope you all have a day where you try something new!!!
