Social media: the genuine vs. the yahoos …

A few days ago I “went off” on Facebook about what a GROSS display of humanism I had seen and had heard of on various posts. I have often said social media is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a wonderful way to stay connected to family, friends, social groups and interests. But it can often be misused. And for some reason, today, I feel the need to express my opinion even more so on the whole mess. Not sure why, but I’m ROLLIN’ with it.

Social media has a way of losing the “person” amongst all the data. Tenderness and compassion gone. Rationality and respect for one another only a distant memory. Accountability lost. People can be harsher and more bold (probably all while sitting on a toilet) than they ever would be in a face to face encounter … and that is just sad.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a stick in the mud. I like to poke fun at others and be made fun of just as much as the next person. Heck, I look forward to it! But silliness aside, I mean when there is down right nastiness towards one other on social media. In my opinion, that’s just not OK.

Social media is also a place where people can lie. They can lie about anything and everything there … and do. Heck, you can even get apps now that morph you skinny and write statuses for you! Or worse … you can take someone’s words and rewrite them as your own … yep, that’s happened to me. And NO, I don’t mean reposting pictures and memes. I mean, I WROTE THE WORDS AND SOMEONE TOOK THEM AND POSTED THEM AS THEIR OWN. Didn’t these people learn about plagiarism in school?!?! Creativity people … CREATIVITY! And for god sake, if you want people to recognize you at the market or post office please try to pick a profile picture that actually looks like you!

Another thing that added to my recent (and apparently current) rant are what I have come to call the “deleters”. These are the people who make a rather BIG stink to get their point across (political, religious, sexual, the right way to bake bread, or whatever) and then they later delete their posts.

What. The. Heck.

Don’t clog up my newsfeed with poop that even YOU can’t believe that you believe! That to me is just as bad as not standing by your word. SHAMEFUL. Again people, THINK before you speak (type)!

To me all of this boils down to two things: BULLYING and being FAKE. Yep people, this craziness has to stop. When you partake in things of this nature you are pretty much throwing your integrity out the window … and letting EVERYONE see you do it! If you didn’t know this already, THAT’S A BAD THING!

Now you may be wondering why with all that I loathe about social media why do I continue to partake? Well, here is why: I’m not going to let a lot of yahoos blow it for the rest of us well behaved people. I will continue to use social media for its’ positive aspects. I will stay connected to the people, places and things that I love. And I will honor and respect social media for being the amazing network it has become by BEING A GOOD HUMAN during my time spent there.

And I think we should all vow to do the same.

So when you find me on WordPress or on Facebook you can expect to find the REAL DEAL. I will always respect you there. I will never be mean or hurtful. I will celebrate there. I will complain there. I will JUST BE there. NOOOO you won’t read about ALL of my dirty laundry there. Nor will you EVER know every trouble I face or secret I keep. But wherever we connect and whatever the subject matter be that I chose to share or discuss … you will get the REAL ME. That cooky hopeful redhead who takes pride in living in an imaginary world. Who desperately tries to live a decent life. Who loves life and the people she shares it with fiercely. Who hopes (and runs) her way … through each new day.

Because that’s all I have to give … and it’s all I know how to be.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you are genuinely you!!!

My 3-year Blog-iversary and a WHOLE LOTTA hope …

So much wonderful emotion was rolled up in this day for me and it’s still not over yet. I can’t even begin to write out the details yet! But know that tomorrow I will GUSH!

I do however want to mention one little thing. Today happens to be my 3rd Blog-iversary for my original Facebook blog page LIVING IN LALA LAND. Go me!

What started off as some friends noticing I had an uncanny ability (or some unidentifiable level of crazy) to come up with a HOPE for each new day, has grown into a blog on WordPress! Whoda thunk?!?!

Certainly not me!

Wow … 3 YEARS … THAT’S over 1,000 daily hopes! When I started LIVING IN LALA LAND. I really wasn’t sure how long I could keep up my daily posts. Heck, I didn’t know if I would even want to, HA! But I did and I still do! Each day I am inspired by my followers. And honestly, I am humbled that people actually care about what I have to say. And so, I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has supported and encouraged me over the past three years. You make my world a happier place ❤

I'm still not sure how long this HOPEFUL streak will last, but I am grateful to have the opportunity to keep writing … So, if you want a place to come and find just a little bit of HOPE you know you can count on finding it in my LALA LAND.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you keep on hoping!!!
