Later today we are heading to our local Down Syndrome Association’s Annual Summer Picnic! It’s always a great time seeing old friends and making new ones. I leave the event every year with a smile on my face. I love knowing that we are part of such an incredible community of people. We are truly blessed!
Well, I hope you all have a fun-filled afternoon!!!
There is something about a summer night that leaves my skin tingling, my mind dreaming and my heart full.
Well, I hope you all have a night that feels magical!!!
Sunlight. A good stretch. A genuine smile. And a kind word. They all seem pretty simple but each of them carry an enormous value for me.
Well, I hope you all have a day where it takes so little!!!
Let’s discuss Chaturanga Dandasana. Chaturanga is a yoga pose, otherwise known as, a low plank where your elbows are held at a 90 degree angle. Not your typical low plank! It’s used in a yoga flow usually to connect poses like downward-facing dog to upward-facing dog or cobra pose. It all flows together beautifully in the sun salutations. But it is SO HARD when you are doing your BAZILLION-TH one for the day. I have been practicing yoga for 8 years. EIGHT. And no matter how many chaturangas I may have under my yoga mat at this point (there has to be 1000s by now) they still EXHAUST ME. During yoga this morning I did A TON of them. By the end I was shaking so badly that my last three were not very … um … flow-y. Grace had completely left this body of mine. My inner peace was replaced with just hoping that my arms wouldn’t fall off. My ability to gently float down to the floor and to sweep my core elegantly into the next pose was replaced by a grunting sound fueled by my natural instincts to survive. It wasn’t pretty but I basically did what I had to to finish, HA! In the middle of all of that misery I convinced myself that I had created a new pose for all of us wiped out yogis. I’m not sure if it will ever catch on. But it sure made me laugh.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you went PLOP!!!
I had a great day today! I got a ton of things done and I was somehow able to squeeze in yoga this morning, some much needed gardening in the afternoon and another workout with speedwork tonight. I’m not sure how, but it all seemed to flow together effortlessly. I love it when that happens! But holy moly, a day like this will take its toll at some point. And I am definitely at that point, HA!
Well, I hope you all had a day were you feel beat!!!
I have no idea why but an Overtones’ song has been stuck in my head all night. It works so I’ll go with it! “Goodnight, sweetheart, well it’s time to go …”
Well, I hope you all have night where you sing yourself to sleep!!!
Reese starts summer school tomorrow. Our district offers a summer session for students with special needs to help keep them on target. I’m very thankful for it! Reese loves school and this is one way to ensure she that keeps that momentum up for the school year. It’s also a shortened school day with lots of fun planned into their academic day. Reese has really enjoyed it the past few years. There is usually just over a week in between the school year ending and summer session starting. I tend to go a little kooky during this time trying to pack a bunch of fun in for her. And this summer I was probably a bit more ridiculous than in the past, HA! And I’m not sure why. This is not her only free summer time. She actually gets about 4-5 weeks at the end of summer with no school. But you know me. I can’t help myself when it comes to my sweet little girl. I want Reese’s life to be magical and fun and full of wonderful experiences. Because let me tell you, in this mom’s eyes, there is absolutely nothing better in the world than seeing her happy.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you over do it!!!
Today we are heading to El Capitan Theater in Hollywood to take Reese to see the new Disney movie out. They always put on quite a show before the actual movie starts so it really adds to the magic of the experience. And seeing Reese’s face light up is just about the best thing in the world!
Well, I hope you all have an INCREDIBLE Saturday!!!
Today was our first beach day of the season and it did not disappoint. Even now, after the car has been unloaded, laundry started and I have showered I can still feel it. A day at the beach lingers with me both physically and emotionally. It is probably one of the reasons I love this time of year so much. It’s like a blanket of warmth that goes deep into my soul … and it is sooooo good.
Well, I hope you all had a day that felt like summer!!!
Today is the summer solstice, which also makes it the first official day of Summer. YAY! This also means that today is the day that we will have the most sunlight. Another YAY in my book! OK fine, I’ve read that depending on where you live this day can range from about June 20 to June 22. I honesty don’t know what day it is for us in Southern California. But I don’t care. The idea that God gives us a day filled with HOURS AND HOURS of light is absolutely magical to me! And I will celebrate accordingly. HA!
Well, I hope you all have a long and beautiful day!!!
