I am going to start this off by saying I have never participated in a mud/obstacle race. But I do survive mornings with my kids … and I am assuming they are a lot a like.
There are things that seem fairly harmless in both a morning routine and a challenging race course that end up slowing you down and making a mockery of all your good intentions. For some reason, no matter how many times you may have “trained” to be successful in your efforts, when the pressure is on, you become scattered and disorganized. Rushed and clumsy! And you may have to touch some pretty gross stuff. You sweat. And maybe swear! You start questioning your sanity and whether you are dressed appropriately for the event. Jammies??? Who wears jammies to a race or to drop off your kids at school?!?! (OK, me to that last part) There can also be a lot of tension, some quick negotiation and moments of defeat. And let’s not forget about that final sprint to the finish line … I mean, the effort it takes to actually physically get the kids to school ON TIME. That is just down right exhausting. And then when you think you are done with your mad dash, finally catching your breath, and flopped over like a rag doll, you realize that there is one more obstacle … someone forgot their P.E. clothes.
Well, I hope you all have a day where you deserve a medal!!!
