A trip down memory lane …

I somehow signed up to receive daily “Memories” on Facebook. When I originally agreed to it I thought it was just a one time thing. It actually has turned out to be every day … AND I LOVE IT! It is a review of all of my posts and pictures that occurred on that day since I created my Facebook account. It has been such a treasure to me to be able to revisit those memories, that I literally can’t wait to see them when I wake up in the morning. I have to say that my favorite part is seeing my H-Crew grow up over the years. Goodness they were such cute little peanuts!

It is also a daily reminder that our lives are full of wonderful change. Yes we have our hard times. But if given an opportunity to literally look back in time, we can’t help but see so much growth. That life is full of new adventures and relationships. That passions only get stronger if they were real and our own to nurture. That dreams do come true with a whole lot of hard work. That true friends (and family) stick around. That love is all that REALLY matters. And that life happens … in the blink of an eye.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you get to take a trip down memory lane!!!

Love won …

I’m a little late to the party on this one, but I wanted to make it clear where I stand. For the record, I am happy with the Supreme Court’s decision yesterday. Aaaaaand as usual I don’t feel the need or desire to defend my opinion. That is between me and God. Who, incidentally, is all about love.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you are happy that LOVE WON!!!

Going nowhere FAST …

I am at that part of my training where I am supposed to be running 5 days a week, per my new training schedule. If you know me, you know that this has NEVER worked out well for me. It took me several injuries to realize that I cross train too much for 5 days of running to benefit to me in any way.

Last year when I hurt my quad/hamstring during the LA Marathon, my orthopedist suggested I cycle at least one day a week instead of run. I gotta admit. I thought he was trying to enlist me in his legionnaire of Ironman recruits. I wanted no part of it. But he assured me that I would get the training my legs needed without the abuse that running hands me. I was reluctant. But when he cleared me to start training again, I decided to give it a whirl.

Although I probably wouldn’t want to admit it to him, he was right. In the past year I have spent many miles on the stationary bike at the gym that I feel have benefited my running greatly. Not just sparing my legs the pounding, but helping me with knee strength. Stronger knees have ultimately lead to a faster pace, especially on the downhill. I believe it’s because my knees feel like they can handle it now, so I have the confidence to push harder. And THAT is always a good thing.

But … and this is a BIG BUT … it is the most boring thing on earth to me. Ever.

Well, I hope you all have a day where you feel like you are going nowhere fast!!!

A beautiful summer day …

Out and about town today I saw something that made me smile from ear to ear.

I make it no secret that I love summer. Life is instantly AWESOME once the feel of summer is in the air. Life is calmer. Prettier. And just more pleasant. As I was driving down the freeway (of all places) I looked up and saw six staggered palm trees against the bluest of skies, with small puffy white clouds shattered behind them. It was … perfect. And the feeling of THIS IS SUMMER washed over me. BIG WONDERFUL SIGH.

Well, I hope you all have a beautiful summer day!!!

Preparing for a face-plant …

My bed is pretty high. Big. Tall. Whatever. It can be difficult to climb into at night. No. Not because I’m old! I’ve always had trouble getting in the darn thing. It’s because it’s up there and I am not what you would call tall. I am 5′ 3.5″ … on a good day.

Anyway, over the years I have developed a few creative ways to get into my bed depending on how I am feeling. For instance, “30 year old, 8 months pregnant” me, did not get into my bed the same way as, say, “24 year old not pregnant” me did. The “night after running a marathon me”, definitely doesn’t get into bed the same as “I did not run today” me.

Which brings me to how I will likely get into bed tonight. I am tired. I had a weird night last night. Then I ran today, “did life”, and took my girls summer clothes shopping. That almost did me in. When we finally got home after a BAZILLION hours at the mall, all I wanted to do was collapse. My legs were done.

And so here I sit, pondering exactly how getting in my bed is going to go down tonight. I gotta say I’m not seeing anything graceful about it … and I am pretty sure I may need a helmet and a mouth guard to pull it off.

Well, I hope you all had a day where you didn’t have to prepare for a face-plant!!!
